Recognizing the advantage of a cummins engine, dodge paired up with the engine manufacturer, and began production of cummins powered ram trucks in 1989. The first ram equipped with the diesel engine had a output of 160 hp, and 400 lbs/trq. With performance like this, ram trucks flew past the competition. In 1996, ram trucks were equipped with a more powerful engine, increasing output to 200 hp. In 2001 cummins motors broke the 500 lbs/trq mark. In 2007 the 6. 7l was introduced, with a power output of 350hp. In 2013 ram and cummins introduced the most recent engine, the 385 hp, and a staggering 850 lbs/trq.
